atlantisbasicsSo, as fun as AUs and crackfic can be, I've been jonesing for stories set within the Atlantis we see on the show - characters that align with what we've seen in episodes, situations that we can extrapolate without leaping ten kilometers sideways, and a tone that also slides into canon. Thus, the Back to Basics: Atlantis story exchange.
Stories can be gen, het, or slash, depending on what’s requested, and can range from G to NC-17. (Het and slash relationships are allowed in the challenge as the author/requestor are building on something that they do see in canon - namely the chemistry between two characters.)
The minimum story length is 1000 words. No maximum story length - if you want to write a novel, go for it, so long as you can post it on May 8, 2006.
The goal of this challenge is to receive feedback saying: "this reads just like an episode (or a scene from an episode)” (perhaps with optional sex). And if you think about it, that’s not such a limiting factor!

AUs aren't the purpose of the challenge, so please don’t ask for: any transformations of team members not seen in canon (such as: penguins or centaurs or reversion to childhood or genderswap (beyond the Duet scenario)); changes in the team structures or canonical backgrounds of the characters as revealed so far; changes in profession of characters seen so far; changes in the science as seen so far, stories set away from the greater Stargate program. Remember that the idea is to stick as closely to canon as possible – there’s still lots of ground to explore within those confines!

a) Beckett-centric teamfic, after Poisoning the Well.
b) Duet redux, only Sheppard's consciousness is riding shotgun in Rodney's body. Slashiness would not be untoward.
c) Separated from the rest of the team, John and Rodney have to fight their way back to the jumper. Yes, it's basically The Defiant One all over again. But you get to make up the aliens and the terrain and the weaponry! Gen, slash, whatevs.

a) the Atlanteans start seeing things/hallucinating for x reason. Horror/drama, gen or slash (John/Rodney). Set in the city.
b) take an episode from Farscape (http://www.gateworld.net/farscape/s1/index.shtml) and rework it as an episode of Atlantis (the way many sci-fi show eps are a re-working of other sci-fi show episodes). Slash (John/Rodney) or gen.
c) John or Rodney get cloned (only one of them) and all tests show that the clones are identical. Take it from there. I think I'd like it to be slash (John/Rodney), but gen would be cool too.

I'd like: (I've no problem if you can work slash into any of these; if not, gen's fine.)
a- Team gets trapped by Ancient doohicky, possibly a game, where they're stuck in their heads and have to get out. (Like Gamekeeper in season 2 of SG-1) Snark between Shep and McKay and maybe non-angsty 0T4 would be adored.
b- The team and sg-1 compare notes. Or sg-1 going over the transmission sent in Letters from Pegasus. Mainly, I want to see Shep's team through SG-1's perspective.
c- Post Storm/Eye from a minor or original character: basically the gossip going around the city about what happened.
I can't do: Sad endings. (I'm willing to try my hand at explicit slash if it's wanted, but no promises on hotness.)

So, hows about one where there's an AU for the SGA guys and gals where there is no 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'-Sheppard/McKay or Sheppard/Teyla/McKay. Sooner or alter gays will be allowed to serve freely in the US and that, that my people will a joyus day.

3. a. ancient device does something bizarrely inexplicable yet terribly amusing. hopefully involving as many of the characters on the show as possible.
b. Teyla & Ronon telling jokes that are completely unfunny to earthlings, mission-fic.
c. telepathic alien race (perhaps a kind of wraith we haven't seen yet?) makes someone (teyla, if you go with the wraith connection) think everyone on atlantis has been killed horribly

Three scenarios you’d like to receive:
a) John, Elizabeth and Rodney bonding. Can be gen or not (threesome or slash for preference if not), can be set post The Storm/The Eye or other scenario of your choosing, but it's that kind of thing I'd like, if possible :).
b) Aiden Ford, post The Runner - how desperate is he, and how much does he miss his home and family, both on Atlantis and on Earth? What does he do between then and when he catches up with AG1 again?
c) Elizabeth and Radek - an elaboration on 'you are the loop'. Again, can be relationshippy or gen.
One thing you don’t want to write: I have no Beckett voice whatsoever.

- Post-Season 2 Ford story. (I haven't seen Allies yet, so if he dies in that or something, let's just pretend I said post-Inferno.) Just please don't character-bash him.

a. The crew finds the Atlantean version of a graveyard, because not everyone had what it took to ascend. Any direction you like from there.
b. Predation on a planet that they visit, and no Get Out of Jail free card ala Epiphany. Also, can't be a Wraith.
c. Speaking of Epiphany... the version of Flanigan's original concept that didn't get filmed: he mentioned the team coming in and pulling a Seven Samuri/Magnificent Seven-style hero spree. Something in that vein would be wonderful.
